Georgi St. Georgiev


 

1881, 20. 02Georgi Stoyanov Georgiev was born in the town of Kazanlak.

1893 Georgi received his first photo cameraa wooden camera of the Turisttype with three double dark slides and the best Zeiss-doppelprotar lens available at that time, as a gift by his father – Stoyan Georgiev Ekimov (1858-1935), founder of the first Amateur Photography Society in Bulgaria (1897), author of the first photographic handbooks published in 1898 and 1904, and a regular associate of the French magazine La Photographie Française.

1903-1904The studies Photography and the Military Arts, Application of Photography in Archaeological Survey, and Judicial Investigation and Photography published.

1911The treatise Conquering the Atmospheric Ocean published.

1912Georgi Georgiev took part in the siege of Adrianople.

1914During World War I Georgi Georgiev served as an observer pilot and conducted many reconnaissance flights during which he took aerial photographs.

1915Georgi Georgiev was restationed to airfield Bozhurishte in order to participate in the first airplane school in Bulgaria. There he taught Aviation Theory, History of Aviation, Aeronautical Meteorology, and Aerophotography.

1917Georgi Georgiev’s textbook of aerophotography and photogrammetry was published.

1920Together with a group of intellectuals with an interest in photography, professional photographers, and artists, Georgi Georgiev founded the Bulgarian Photography Club. He also published his study titled Principles and Structure of Aircraft.

1928Georgi Georgiev made the amateur feature film The Daughter of the Rhodopes, acting as its writer, director and director of photography.

1932Georgi Georgiev made the amateur feature film Spring in Nature and Spring in Life, which was awarded the bronze medal in Paris in 1933.

1937Georgi Georgiev published Photogenic Characteristics of Higher Mountains in Bulgaria and The Way of New Photography.

1940Georgi Georgiev published Photography and Mountaineering.

1942G. Georgiev published Notes on Theoretical Issues of Contemporary Photography.

1946Georgi Georgiev initiated the launch of Cine and Photo (“Kino i foto”) magazine (1946-1951).

1950The State College for Cinematography and Photography was founded. Georgi Georgiev was given a teaching position in the college and appointed its principal.

1953Georgi Georgiev became chief instructor in artistic photography in Bulgarian Photography State Enterprise. He organised the first national exhibition of artistic photography in Bulgaria.

1959, 01. 07Georgi Georgiev died in the city of Sofia.

 

In his lifetime Georgi Georgiev made a number of presentations on the technical and theoretical aspects of photography, published many articles in the press, and had successful participations in international photographic exhibitions in Milan, Berlin, Vienna, Zagreb. Between 1924 and 1934, in Paris, he won 5 silver and bronze medals in photography and cinematography. He translated several tractates from Russian, German, and French for the purposes of young photographers’ and filmmakers’ education. His studies Mountainous Photography, Aesthetical and Technical Issues in Contemporary Photography, and Foundations of Realistic Artistic Photography remain unpublished.
