SUBJECTIVE THREE-DIMENSIONALITY PROJECT
The project deals with the problem of subjective – objective reality as oppositions in a dramatic context. The transformation of the visual image in this project is offered as a personal experience but in its wider sense it is related to the existing media manipulation of the objective truth and its becoming subordinated to the desired, expected, and necessary.
For the visual perception of modern man the photographic image, the documentary film narrative, the live dialogue in front of the lens is perceived as the most correctly and objectively reflected reality. To our contemporaries the classical imagery of painting, feature film, literary character, ideas, and suggestions are related to the realities of concrete life in a complex manner and communication with it is difficult and accessible to few people.
The direct suggestion of modern visual imagery (advertisement, commercials, reality shows, videos) don’t place any thresholds of perceptions. The project uses these attitudes of the modern man and searches for associations with the visual imagery from the modern social environment.
The visual objects which form the basic part of this object count on the photographic image as a frozen instant of objectivity and the dynamics of plastics drawn from the real geometry of human face and figure that is abstract in itself, existing only in human consciousness. The impact of things is obtained by mixing the illusory space of photography with the real tree-dimensionality of plastic intervention. As a result we get an image of suggested associations which are not characteristic of photography represented in standard ways. The advertised physical manipulation of the objective claim that photography is a means of achieving the impact sought. It was impossible to realise the idea by using classical plastic materials; that is why materials that are product of modern technologies were used such as italbond, solvent print, mechanical processing with computer controlled plotters. For the best possible presentation of the idea, a cartoon will be created that uses visual material from the preliminary work on the project as well as the creation of a conceptual object entitled Mirror for Interior and Exterior Reflection.
Subjective three-dimensionality
(a monologue)
I look at myself in the mirror and I don’t recognise myself. I see myself real when I close my eyes. In my inner mirror I am strong, handsome, clever, interesting. I am the leading character and everything I think, desire, or dream of, happens. I can turn everything into my reality regardless of time, gravity, and the actual space dimensions. I can be a warrior, a traveller, a castaway, I can win and lose beautifully. I can witness events I haven’t been present at and events that haven’t happened. I’ve been in love with Venus of Wielendorf, with Saschia, with the Great Odalisque and I still am…
I have felt pain in my neck under the vault of the Sistine Chapel; I’ve seen myself in the mirror with my ear cut off, I’ve been sick with syphilis on the island of Tahiti and all the other things I could tell….
I can remodel real people, events, and facts; I can give passion and love to the insensitive, power to weakness, bravery to cowardice. I can do anything.
And I even think that there can be no ugly and kindness, beauty and evil without me.
The subject of my home mirror keeps constantly refuting me with the arguments of reality. It convinces me that what I talk and think is some fake reality and that in order to look good in the eyes of those around you you shouldn’t talk like that or show like that.
Despite using his photographs, I declare that the connection with this subject with the characters and events shown in this exhibition is accidental.
